The headline says it all! There’s not much more to learn, go to cheapbeersphilly.com to explore the beautiful world of cheap beer!
Unfortunately, we here at the Philly Plain Dealer will have to admit that something that uses AI is good and cool. According to Cheap Beers Philly, they utilize Claude AI to run reports weekly on 3 things:
- Finder – sniffs out new bars across Philly.
- Onboarder – reads each bar’s website and public menus.
- Refresher – updates every price every Wednesday.

The site has icons that help to tell how accurate the information is, and it is explicitly free to use.
The creator of Cheap Beers Philly refers to himself as “A Philly-area developer who got tired of texting friends “where’s cheap drafts tonight?”
I empathize with this frugal developer as I too have searched for happy hours in Philly dozens of times over the years and worked at a bar that no longer exists that sold $.50 beers.
Cheap Beers Philly currently has Jose Pistola’s in Center City and Daly’s Irish Pub in the Northeast as the only beers in Philadelphia cheaper than $3.00. Inversely Leo and Bolo in Center City, along with Frankford Hall are listed as having the most expensive beers in the city at $9.00.

The application also has a function highlighting Happy Hours, which could serve as a useful tool for Philadelphians.
As prices rise and the economy worsens, there is a need for heroes like whoever made this website. There are no strings attached, no log-ins, no upcharge – just good clean information to help you save a buck or two. There is an option on Cheap Beers Philly to buy the creator a beer to cover costs, but boy is it refreshing to see something made for a reason other than profit.
The creator of this website has been contacted and this article will be updated if he responds.
The following correspondence took place via email after publication:
Philly Plain Dealer: Who are you? (No sweat if you wanna remain anonymous)
Cheap Beer Philly: I’m just a Software developer with a special love for Philly.
PPD: Why did you do this?
CBP: Why? I felt like there no standard way to find Happy hour or good pint around other than having to look thru websites which could be stale, or having to go to social media a person would go thru one or two bar before getting tried and just picking a random one instead of being able to chose from a wide list with variety of options.
PPD: Are you intentionally not monetizing the site? Is this altruistic endeavor?
CBP: This something I made to use for me and my friends to get out and enjoy some time in person.
PPD: What is the correct price for a beer?
CBP: I don’t think there is a correct price, the goal was simple just to have all the happy hour deals and beers and their prices to easily pick out the going out spot for the night.
I don’t think all the prices are 100% accurate but it gives enough information to motivate people to go out and have a good time.
