Eagles head coach Doug Pederson was fired this afternoon (1/11).
The Eagles 2020 season was absolutely hideous. With a record of 4-11-1, some Quarterback controversy, injuries, and little to no cap room; the Birds are at a crossroad. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie met with Pederson to discuss the future of the franchise multiple times since the regular season ended ultimately culminating in Pederson’s termination this afternoon.
NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported, “Pederson was sick of people telling him what to do.”
Is this enough?
Not at all. The Eagles still have to offload either Carson Wentz or Jalen Hurts this offseason, which is another disaster waiting to happen. General Manager Howie Roseman needs to be fired before he drafts another JJ Arcega-Whiteside or accidentally drafts a third starting Quarterback. The Eagles are simply bad, they have worse players on their team than most other teams.
At the parade following the Eagles Super Bowl win under Doug Pederson, starting center Jason Kelce gave a speech highlighting criticisms of players throughout that year: “Carson Wentz didn’t go to a division one school, Nick Foles don’t got it, Zach Ertz can’t block, Nelson Agholor can’t catch,” Kelce said. It was a truly rousing speech given the obstacles that the players overcame to win the Super Bowl.
But in 2021, there is no silver-lining. Desean Jackson can’t stay healthy, Alshon Jefferey is too slow, Carson Wentz needs to go, Howie needs to go, Arcega-Whiteside shouldn’t be in the NFL, Zach Ertz is too expensive, Nate Sudfeld shouldn’t be in the NFL, Jake Elliot can’t kick, and the Philadelphia Eagles are one of the worst teams in football.
