On Sunday Afternoon the Chicago-based indie rock band Friko was perusing the Passyunk Ave ACME before they packed up their tour van to head to Washington DC for the next stop on their tour.
On Saturday night Friko played at the Foundry in Fishtown at a concert presented by Latchkey Records and WXPN, which explains why they parked miles away from the venue near Latchkey.
Friko bandmates David Fuller (bass) and Korgan Robb (guitar) ran into Philly Plain Dealer journalist Jason N Peters as they loaded up their van to travel and gave a short introductory interview.

Friko talks Philadelphia.
PPD: So what brings you to the Passyunk Ave Acme parking lot?
DAVID: Overnight parking baby, it’s really hard to find parking in Philly.
PPD: How far into this tour is Friko?
DAVID: Three months – give or take. We started off in Asia and Europe, and then we are now here. So it’s been about 3 months straight, and it’s been great for sure. This was our, like, maybe like 4th or 5th show on the east coast.
PPD: All right, so what is coming up for your band? What can people expect?
DAVID: Torah ends in a week. Thank goodness. We’ve been gone for like 3 months. So then we have a show in Mexico City, Corona Capital, uh, like the weekend before Thanksgiving, and then we have a hometown show in Chicago with the band Rap Boys. That’s all we’ve got for the rest of the year. And then we’re going to take a couple month break, chill and hang.
PPD: If someone was to listen to a song for the 1st time what song would you recommend?
DAVID: Probably “Where We’ve Been” – that’s the first one that would come to mind for me.
PPD: How was the show at the foundry last night?
DAVID: It was a lot of fun, man. Pretty good crowd. Weird loaded, but it was fun. sounding good up there. Yeah, dude, it was a good time. It was also a cool part of town. was FishTown, I think.
PPD: Did you guys get to do anything fun where you were in Philly or is it just kind of like in and out?
KORGAN: We got cheesesteak.
PPD: Where at?
KORGAN: Joe’s, right?
DAVID: Yeah, Joe’s.
KORGAN: I just got a cheesesteak.
DAVID: I got the vegan one. I’m vegetarian. don’t eat meat.
PPD: I appreciate you guys, safe travels!
Friko On Tour.
Friko is an impressive young band filled with young men with distinct Midwest accents. They make an older brand of indie music that requires patience and attention to detail. Their discography is chock full of three to six minute songs with full production and sound. It makes sense why Friko is booked and busy, their talent is recognizable upon first listen.
If you’re unfamiliar with Friko – the closest local comparison are The Districts who similarly make fully fleshed out indie music and are not afraid to release a 4-minute ballad. Safe travels Friko!
