FAMCON Aims to Provide Philly Creatives with a Pathway to Success

Fam Frequency Productions is a music and entrepreneurship nonprofit organization, and what we do is we help emerging artists to be able to build sustainable careers within the music industry,” explained Lanisha Otuonye.

Fam Frequency Productions was created by Otuonye and Jonathan Edwards in 2022 and has been helping emerging student-artists build technical music production skills, develop professional portfolios, earn income through creative work, and gain access to industry mentors, internships, and real-world opportunities.

Their programs include a 15-Month Fellowship Program, Spin Academy, Fam Sessions, and their signature annual event, FAMCON. “We have our annual conference FAMCON, it’s our emerging artist conference where we have panelists and workshops around not only music production and audio engineering, but also the business, the music industry, different careers within music, as well as how to holistically make sure that you are sustainable in your music endeavors,” explained Otuonye.

FAMCON 2026 takes place Sept 12th from 9am-6pm at Intercultural Family Services Building.

FamCon participants can expect a little slice of everything, whether it comes to career navigation, how to build streams of income from your music or your artistry, they can learn how to build a career where they can actually sustain. How do you be a creator in 2026 where production and output is so important and not end up hating the fact that you are a creator? Tech workshops around the technical skills of music production, audio engineering.”

Otuonye continues “Our goal is to be able to create the infrastructure or start the infrastructure so that here in Philadelphia we have a creator ecosystem that is working well for all of us.

A lot of folks who identify as music creators or creators in general find that Philadelphia is maybe the starting place for them, but in order to build the type of impact that they want, they have to go to LA, they have to go to New York, or they have to go to Atlanta. No, let’s have these conversations here and let’s figure out how to not only keep the town here, but have people thriving and instead of just surviving.”

The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance estimated that the arts and culture economy created a $3.3 billion annual impact in the greater Philadelphia region from May 2022 through June 2023. The city has more than 40 music venues, hundreds of bars that host live music, and no shortage of opportunities to perform in parks, parties, and festivals.

“If you are a DJ, music producer, artist, manager, photographer, videographer, somebody who is music adjacent, this event is for you!” Otuonye expressed. “I believe that you’re going to get a lot of value out of it, and not only will you get value, but you get an insight into the future of what the Philadelphia creator economy can look like.”
