On June 22, 2026 – the Philly Plain Dealer will be releasing its 3rd Print Edition! 

Our team includes Jason N. Peters, Martin Sakansong, Kate Shuman, Stephanie Sena, Elijah Fischer, James Luckey, Kevin Penn, Steve Overlander, and more! We’d love to hear from you, if you have a story to tell or a poem to share!

The Philly Plain Dealer is a writer-operated independent nonprofit news outlet awaiting 501c3 approval. We have existed since 2020 and are in our third iteration of the publication. Since our re-launch in December of 2024, we have built up our audience, broken our monthly and annual page view records many times over and have been making progress in Philadelphia. At the start of 2026 we were the First News Outlet in Philadelphia to make a No AI Promise, barring words written by robots from ever appearing on this sight.

Our aim is to give new voices in the city a chance to shine, we want to build a unique business model around journalism in Philadelphia, and we want to highlight overlooked stories in the city.

Our Third Print Edition is currently available for pre-order for $10, this will be our largest and best looking print edition thus far! Our first edition was 8-pages, our second edition was 12, and our third edition is slated to be between 18-22 pages! Each copy of the Philly Plain Dealer is hand-numbered by one of our writers from 1-250, and each copy of the Third Print Edition has a 40% chance of containing a small prize!

To give Philly Plain Dealer readers a peak behind the curtains, we are essentially an entirely volunteer operation. Every cost attached to this website including hosting, domain name, graphic design software, and printing costs is paid for by our writers. We are funding this wholly ourselves and have been for more than five years. We need support from readers or local businesses if we are to exist! We also never want to have a paywall.

Throughout 2026 with some pro bono help from some exceptional law students at the University of Pennsylvania the Philly Plain Dealer has officially become a nonprofit organization. Our 501c3-ez status is currently pending, we have two Founding Directors, Jason N. Peters and Martin Sakansong, and on 4/23/2026 the Philly Plain Dealer voted to add Kate Shuman as our first Member Director.
