UPDATE: From May 22, 2025 to May 29, 2025 Bryson Stott held the record for “Best Stolen Base Percentage in MLB History.” As of June 11, 2025 Stott is third on the list behind Kyle Tucker and Byron Buxton.

Rickey Henderson is the single best MLB player to ever attempt to steal a base, with 1,741 stolen bases in his career stolen at a proficiency of 80%. However, there is currently an unspoken battle in the modern MLB not over who the “best” base stealer is but who the most efficient base stealer in baseball is.

Bryson Stott has stolen 84 bases on 94 attempts making his Stolen Base Percentage the 2nd best in MLB history behind Byron Buxton. Buxton is a talented outfielder for the Minnesota Twins, and is currently on the IL for a week after running into a teammate in the outfield.

Stott’s SB% is 89.362%
Buxton’s SB% is 89.381%

If Stott successfully steals one more base (without being thrown out) he will have a SB% of 89.473% at 85 for 95 and would pass Byron Buxton as having the best career stolen base percentage of all-time. This week while Byron Buxton is injured Bryson Stott has the chance to temporarily be the best in baseball history in a stat group. Barry Bonds has homeruns, Pete Rose has the most hits, Rickey Henderson has the most steals, but Bryson Stott could have the best stolen base percentage in baseball history.

Surprisingly, other recognizable Phillies names are high on this list Chase Utley is number 5 all-time in SB%, Trea Turner is 12th, Jayson Werth 13th, and Shane Victorino at 29th. The Phillies have been weirdly efficient at stealing bases the last 20 years and somehow Bryson Stott who to the common fan would be considered the 3rd fastest player on the roster has a chance to be part of MLB history in this niche category.

Bryson Stott is one successful stolen base away from having the best stolen base percentage in baseball history, so keep an eye out for it as the Phillies head out to Colorado.
