Local sports radio hosts and fans may be anxious about Sunday’s NFC Championship game between the Eagles and the Commanders, but the Philadelphia City government is making preparations for victory. It seems Mayor Cherelle Parker knows that the Washington Commanders had the 3rd worst run defense in the 2024 regular season and that Saquon Barkley has scored four touchdowns against Washington this season.

Yesterday the city announced: “Thursday, January 23, residents and businesses may begin to see ‘Temporary No Parking Signs’ along the South Broad Street corridor and around City Hall.” Those no parking zones will go into effect on Saturday at noon. You can also expect these parking restrictions “around Cottman and Frankford Avenues in Northeast Philadelphia and around S. Broad Street in South Philadelphia.”

Victory Formation

The government knows exactly what you want to do and they are getting ready. They know that if the Eagles win, you’re gonna go to Broad Street. If you’re South of Washington Ave, you probably are headed towards the stadium. If you’re north of Washington or living on the North side of Philadelphia, odds are you’re headed to City Hall.

According to a press release from the City – “At the conclusion of Sunday’s game, temporary traffic closures may be put into place to maintain public safety at the Sports Complex District, and in the vicinity of City Hall and surrounding Center City streets between 13th and 15th Streets and Arch and Lombard Streets.

Travel delays can be expected, and motorists are advised to avoid the area by using alternate routes and allow for extra driving time when traveling in the vicinity.”

Chaos

On January 21, 2018 – the Eagles beat the dignity out of the Minnesota Vikings 38-7 and they’ve never been the same since. On that eventful evening people began to eat poop in the street, climb on top of unreliable surfaces, and tear down infrastructure out of celebration. A couple friends of mine were rushed to local hospitals for a myriad of reasons, each more ridiculous than the other. The City knows you are looking for an outlet of expression, and it can be assumed they want you to keep everything above board.

“Throughout the day, the City will provide law-enforcement support, traffic control, and emergency medical services at the Sports Complex District and other key locations for public safety… if driving to the game, check current conditions of highways and roads by using PennDot’s live map 511pa.com or on X/Twitter @511PAphilly.”

Before the 2018 Super Bowl, the government would have little to no idea how the citizens under its jurisdiction would handle a Super Bowl win. It’s a beautiful thing to live in a City of winners. The Washington Commanders haven’t won a Super Bowl since before I was born, I am 29.

The Philadelphia City Government is ready for an Eagles victory, now it’s just time for Saquon and the Defense to do their job. “Additional protocols for the upcoming game are being evaluated by the Philadelphia Police Department and our public safety partners. General tips for business owners regarding public safety can be found online

The Office of Emergency Management will open the city’s Emergency Operations Center on game day to bring together dozens of city departments and partners to coordinate planning, response, and public information. Any information and updates will be published on the Office of Emergency Management (@Philaoem), City of Philadelphia (@PhiladelphiaGov), and Police (@PhillyPolice) X/Twitter pages.”
