The Sixers are staying in South Philly and here’s how you can celebrate! Partake in one of the best attractions that Philadelphia sports has to offer, a Double Down. Well, different people call it different things, but essentially a Double Down or a Bang-Bang is when you attend one Philadelphia sporting event and then go to a second Philadelphia sporting event without leaving South Philadelphia.
There are rare opportunities to accomplish this feat, but the premiere season to partake in this sports tradition is from March 30th to April 15th in any given year. Get your tax return and Double Down.
The Double Down is accomplishable because all three of the City’s sports complexes are next to each other, in walking distance, with no shortage of bars and amusements in the area.
The Philly Plain Dealer has identified four dates in this Double Down Season where fans can plan to go to both games:
- 3/31/25 – Opening Day Double Down: Phillies v Rockies 3:05pm, Flyers v Predators – 7pm
- 4/3/25 – Sick Day Back to Back: Phillies v Rockies 1:05pm, Sixers v Bucks – 7:30pm
- 4/5/25 – The Best Saturday Ever: Phillies v Dodgers 4:35pm, Sixers v Timberwolves 7pm
- 4/12/25 – The Sicko Special: Flyers v Islanders 12:30pm, Wings v Swarm 7pm

There is a ton of variety in this year’s Double Down Schedule. Notably you will have the chance to attend the Phillies Home Opener on March 31st and then walk directly across the street to the Wells Fargo Center to watch the Flyers take on the Predators.
Prefer a schedule with some downtime instead of going straight from one game to the other? On April 3rd you can fake sick from your job, and go watch an afternoon baseball game between the Phillies and Rockies, then go tailgate or go to the Casino for a few hours before marching down to Wells Fargo Center for a 7:30 tip off between the Sixers and the Bucks.
April 5th is perhaps the most star-studded Double Down Opportunity, it’s a premium Double Down. Shohei Ohtani and the World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Phillies at 4:35, then Anthony Edwards and company play the 76ers at 7pm. There won’t be much down time during this double-down but it will be jam-packed with big names and big plays.
The final double-down we’ve identified is for absolute sickos. It would require roughly 10 hours of dedicated time, the majority of which would be spent in the Wells Fargo Center. Passionate hockey and lacrosse fans will be able to enjoy a Flyers vs. Islanders game for lunch at 12:30, then stew in South Philly for about 3-4 hours before re-entering the Farg for some dinner time Wings lacrosse.
Check your schedules, plan accordingly, and brace yourselves for Double Down season.
