This week’s Philly Song of the Week is in celebration of Howie Roseman’s most recent robbery of a division rival, the Washington Commanders! The song of the week is “Jahan Dotson” by Matty Fresh, a song that was made to support Dotson’s Heisman campaign in 2021 when Dotson recorded 1,182 receiving yards for the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Not only is this the song of the week because football season is upon us, but rather because this song is an absolute smash. The song may have been made in the 2020’s but it is reminiscent of early 2010’s frat rap akin to something Sammy Adams or Wiz Khalifa would’ve dropped in 2012. It scratched an itch for me that I didn’t know I needed to scratch.
I couldn’t even listen to this song while I wrote this article because I started dancing and singing the chorus. If the Eagles don’t acquire the rights to this song to play in-stadium when Jahan Dotson scores a touchdown – they are not doing their job correctly. This is one of the best songs about a single athlete, joining the Songs about Athletes Hall of Fame along with Do The John Wall, Mo Bamba, and Lil Wayne’s Kobe Bryant song.
Jahan Dotson was a first round draft pick two years ago, and the Eagles got him for a 3rd and two 7th round picks. The rumor is that the Washington Commanders made this bad deal because they’re making room to trade for frustrated 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk, to which I say – good luck with that Washington! We’ll take Dotson, he and Saquon can chat about Penn State as they score touchdown after touchdown against their former teams.
The artist of this “Jahan Dotson” is Matty Fresh, who is somewhat of a Penn State legend. He’s made many songs about Penn State and Penn State athletes, and has made a lot of interesting sports content. Most recently Fresh has been covering the USFL and the XFL, as well as hosting radio shows on T102 Radio.
Thank you Matty Fresh for this certified banger, I hope to hear it all over Philadelphia this upcoming NFL Season.
