This week the AMP House dropped their 2024 rap cypher featuring the return of Kevin Hart as his rapping alter ego “Chocolate Droppa.” However, Kevin Hart isn’t the only Philly connection to the viral cypher. Just before the famous Canadian YouTuber & AMP member, Agent 00 begins to rap – you can hear the famous Philly beat tag “Got that beat from Jumbo!”
To anyone older than 35 or not a fan of rap music, I’m sure that the first paragraph was gibberish but bear with me.
Philly producer Jumbo Beatz produced Agent 00’s verse for the 2024 AMP Cypher, which has gone incredibly viral on social media spawning thousands of reaction videos and garnering 7 million views on YouTube. Jumbo has been a staple in the Philly hip-hop scene and this viral success is yet another notch in his belt on a national scale.
Kai Cenat and the AMP content creators are an unavoidable force for anyone who uses TikTok or Twitch. The AMP House is a group of livestreamers and online media personalities who all live in the same house and have created an interconnected media network that features some of the biggest stars in hip-hop and comedy. Members of the AMP House include the previously mentioned Kai Cenat & Agent 00, along with Duke Dennis, Fanum, chrisnxtdoor, and ImDavisss.
Jumbo told the Plain Dealer “I got involved with the AMP cypher thru my bro 2Rare. He put me onto Agent 00. At first Agent just wanted me to come to NY just to record his part, and then I ended up making the beat right there in the session. It was dope because the whole thing ended up being a collaborative effort. And that’s how I like to work with artists.”
Agent 00’s rap style emulates a comedic version of the “Detroit flow” which makes sense because Detroit is very close to his hometown of Toronto. In previous AMP cyphers Agent went viral for saying completely outlandish things that a normal rapper would never say.
In the 2024 cypher Agent maintained his reputation for saying the wildest things possible, the most PG of which being “I snuck into special ed class and got straight A’s.”
The AMP cypher is X minutes long and features seven different beats likely produced by seven different producers. Jumbo said he “only made the beat that Agent 00 used, luckily it was the first thing you hear when the cypher starts.”
This cypher is one of the most clipped and reused pieces of content on the internet right now. Millions and millions of people heard Jumbo Beatz beat tag, beat, and production skills over the course of this week all on the backs of comedians and streamers instead of rappers.
“I think working with influencers and streamers is extremely important,” Jumbo continues, “especially because of the landscape we’re in right now. They pretty much got the culture right now, and they’re usually streaming every night in front of thousands of people, and really giving them uncut conversation. It’s not filtered by a corporation, or big company like it was just a few years ago. And that’s really something that we never had before in this industry.”
The AMP House and their biggest star Kai Cenat who at 22 years old has 12.5 million Twitch Followers, has been voted Streamer of the Year multiple times, and is one of the most influential people on the internet to a younger demographic has now incorporated two Philly greats between Kevin Hart and Jumbo Beatz into one of his biggest productions of the year.
