Last Friday (4/5) ,  Sleepwalker Entertainment and Couple Ghouls collaborated on their first show of the year. 

Prior to the show I hadn’t really heard of Couple Ghouls but they are essentially a booking agent for shows. The shows are usually in Philadelphia but may take place in another location  depending on the band or artist’s location. They’ve been booking shows since 2013 of music genres. They’re a laid back entity that welcomes anyone attempting to put on a showcase.  

For those not familiar, for the most part, Sleepwalker is now solely run by Amari Newman. A Washington, DC native living in Philadelphia. He has friends that help out with interviews, articles and playlists for his website. But when it comes to finding new artists and booking them for an event like this, it’s all Amari. 

The Instagram promoted event was held in a West Philadelphia venue near Upenns campus. Soon as you walk in there’s about 40 to 50 people posted upstairs and more in the basement waiting for the event to begin. There were free beverages and a camera man walking around filming for what I assume is gonna be the Sleepwalker edit of the event.

The sounds and energy of the line up had the whole venue cranking like no other. At one point I had to put my airpods in my ears because I was afraid of losing hearing.

Artists Sub9k and Triniviv and Cowboykilerr all performed sets alongside DJ FINNAHITALICK who was spinning sounds for the night. The headliner for the night was Maryland legend Lil Xelly. The DMV (DC,Maryland and Virginia) artist performed tracks from his recently released tape XRRTIFIED POSSE 2, which was produced with French DJ and Producer Soudiere. 

As a one man show in terms of organizing an event such as this one, Amari outdid himself. As Sleepwalker heats up and gains more traction I’m excited to see what other artists Newman will draw to Philadelphia for more performances.
